The project team have run craft activities for young families, at community events and venues which provided attendees opportunities to learn more about Lowestoft’s history and heritage. In particular we have really enjoyed running activities with the Food In School Holidays project. (This is a collaboration between local churches and organisations to provide children and families who would normally rely on free school meals with a free meal during the school holidays when the schools are closed.) Lunches are provided a different location throughout the town.
We are currently working with artist Genevieve Rudd, to run Town Hall Creates workshops for local unemployed people using cyanotype photography and based around the architecture of the Town Hall helping them to build skills and confidence. In early March Genevieve will also be running sessions with different groups of older people facilitating discussion and creativity around reminiscence and sharing stories about the Town Hall and High Street. These memories would become the imagery and words used in the Cyanotype photography outcomes. Participants would be welcomed to bring in any photos, memories or memorabilia about the Town Hall. With thanks to Access Community Trust for assisting with recruiting participants for the different sessions.
