Situated in the North of Lowestoft by the Suffolk Coastline, Sparrow’s Nest was originally owned by Robert Sparrow, a local wealthy landowner, before being purchased by the local council in the 1890s.

Over the years, there have been a number of changes in the park which include the former pavilion theatre which was once a popular venue for concerts and visiting performers.

The park is now home to a children’s play area, a bowling green, three museums, the Lowestoft Movie Makers Club and two restaurants/cafes.

Often described as a “Destination Park”, Sparrow’s Nest Gardens has played host to several iconic events over the years, recently hosting the “People’s Performance in the Park” and beacon lighting in honour of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, and the “Coronation Concert” for King Charles III in May 2023.

In 2026, during the Town Council’s summer campaign for “Top Parks”, Sparrow’s Nest Gardens was voted as Lowestoft’s favourite park by the people of Lowestoft, beating Denes Oval, Fen Park and Cotman Close in a closely fought final.
