Town councillors have opened the doors of Lowestoft's historic Town Hall in their first step towards exploring the options for its future use. The Town Council wants to make the right decisions about its guardianship of this important building for current and future generations and will be carefully preparing the way for bringing it back into use, taking account of the views of local people. The first tour of the site took place on 5 July 2017.
A new Local Plan for the Waveney district is being prepared. The First Draft Local Plan will include the preferred location for new homes, employment land and community uses, and policies which will be used to help determine planning applications. The District Council intends to publish the First Draft Plan for 8 weeks public consultation. Final dates are to be confirmed but they are aiming for Friday 28 July to Friday 22 September 2017 (8 weeks). The First Draft Plan will be considered by the District Council’s Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 12 July. The agenda will be published on their website www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk 5 working days prior to the meeting. As a new Town Council, Lowestoft Town Council will be considering how best to represent the interests of the Town and make the community voice heard.

The first meeting of Lowestoft Town Council took place on 16 May with 16 Councillors being elected to office and Councillor Ian Graham being elected as Mayor.
